Katherine was raised in a military family in the suburbs just outside of Washington, D.C. Later, she completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech in 2004. Since then, she has worked in the health and wellness industry from various angles.
Upon moving to Richmond in 2007, Katherine held the position as Personal Training Director and Group Exercise instructor at a large chain co-ed fitness center in the area. At this time she was in the best shape of her life - training up to 12 clients per week and taught more than 10 cycle and fitness classes per week. In December of 2009, Katherine suffered a stroke causing her to become unable to have normal sensation and control over the right side of her body but was quick to recover. A month later, she worked towards earning her pro card in the IFPA and WNBF bodybuilding organizations, and later became a Natural Bodyz sponsored athlete. During this time she also studied Dietetic Behavioral Counseling at the Medifast Weight Control Center.
In 2013, Katherine broke her tailbone in a skydiving accident leaving her to stay at home with Eric and their 2 young boys. She was reintroduced to exercise through yoga in 2014 and has since then been able to improve her balance and pain from multiple injuries sustained through bodybuilding and her stroke.
Katherine studied yoga and meditation under John and Chris Yax, owners of the Yax Yoga Concepts therapeutic style of yoga. The Yax Yoga Concepts is based on the philosophy which adheres to being open to evolving with the needs of the individual and the community. This methodology incorporates the most effective practices from various styles of yoga and spiritual traditions, blending cutting edge science with grounded wisdom teachings. The result is a holistic approach to the understanding of personal transformation.
Katherine feels empowered by the yoga practice on and off the mat. She encourages everyone to start their journey from within.

“Your body’s ability to function as a clean and efficient channel is limited by stiffness, lack of strength, and lack of endurance. Your mind’s ability is limited by the way it thinks about itself, by the way you think about you. The process of yoga is one of undoing the obstructions and limitations in your body and mind that inhibit the free flow of creative life force.” Erich Schiffmann
